RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL HOUSEKEEPING BUSINESS

Being an owner of any business is rewarding, challenging, difficult and exciting. You hope to be successful, you pray for your business to be profitable and you wake up each day with the attitude of winning the trust and relationship of your customers and learn the value of your employees. Of course there is way more to it than that. Don’t leave me on the “hanger” here!

Hiring the right employee is a very important factor and a challenging process when running your business. It’s a positive impact on the total work environment.

Creating a checklist for hiring an employee will help you systematize your process.

Effective background checks are one of the most important steps. One that may be neglected due to the simple fact that “the show must go on” The business must run, somehow.This kind of thinking can send you out the EXIT door as a business owner.

The background checks must include work references, educational credentials, employment references and actual jobs held, and most important, criminal history. How can you find a job when you have a criminal record? It's certainly not easy.
Not only can a criminal record impact your employability, but the time out of the workforce is an additional challenge when seeking employment.

For the safety of your employees, customers and business don’t wait for it to happen to you.

Be aware of the volume of what your business can handle based on the successful hiring of the right team. Understanding that if a potential employee is not truthful on a job application, it can disqualify them from employment and could be terminated in the future - not necessarily because of what was found, but because they were dishonest when they applied.

 FINGERPRINTING has helped us in many ways, but does not solve the employment problems. It eliminates some applications from attempting to hit the cutting room floor, but the problem still exists. The concern for theft on the job in a customer’s home is crucial, vital, essential and consequential.  After all of your hiring tactics, background search, interviews and essential choices for candidates, you have reached the critical point of who will get the job? Will you be confident the person you hire could be trusted; will they be able to accept the appropriate training? Every job task is different. Will they be able to grow, develop and adapt to the new challenges? Will they be a team player and rise to the advantages of bonuses and higher pay availabilities with all of their hard work and efforts?

Some may say housekeeping, cleaning or janitorial work is for the uneducated. You will never find what you are looking for no matter how hard you try.Additionally, this career path tends to be one of high turnover.  NOT TRUE, I say…….There is real, true satisfaction in this job position. You must be a highly motivated person with attention to detail, honest and reliable, self-motivated and dedicated. You must be able to follow tasks, direction, make decisions based on safety. This position is physical and demanding and that makes housekeeping one of the most needed services for home owners.

 In conclusion, if being a housekeeper, home watch or home manager is the business of choice, increasing your home owner satisfaction rate and employment hiring skills should be the most important factor. Running a housekeeping business has to be at the top of your list as a manager or operator. By recognizing common weaknesses and churning out potential issues on the spot, and bringing unmistakable challenges to the forefront of your housekeeping team this business might be for you.
